Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the showdown between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a shock lead. First, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 years.
